Winter in Melbourne is far from dull, we have lots of different events happening, including the famous White Night! This year, White Night has been moved from one night in February to three nights in winter, to allow for more light shows due to the longer period of darkness. White Night is one of the most exciting nights in the Melbourne Calendar, and should not be missed! Over an incredible three nights, you will get to witness the true culture and creativity of Melbourne, with music, food, events, art and light shows across this glorious city. This year, White Night is being held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 22nd-24th of August and we think it’s time to start getting your accommodation organised!

There is a wide range of musical talented being highlighted over the White Night festival, including local artists, classical artists and musical history! The ‘White Noise’ event features a range of different emerging Australian artists, including CLYPSO, Constant Mongrel and The Merindas who will perform at some of Melbourne’s most significant music hot spots. Another stage is the ‘Push Stage’, which will hold a free inclusive event featuring iconic Australian artists, including Ball Park Music, Thelma Plum, Tyne James Organ, Totty and Tulliah.

Other noteworthy music events over the course of White Night include the Superdrone, Australian Music Vault, Blak Night/White Night at the Melbourne Museum and Nocturnal x White Night x RocKwiz revolution.

White Night also has a delicious assortment of food, perfect for dinner, a snack or even desert.  For a special treat, some of the leading chefs in Melbourne have come together to create a ‘White Night Feast’, held at the Royal Exhibition Building. This feast will occur on the opening night (Thursday), however it is very pricey, and while it is sure to be amazing, we recommend it for a special occasion.

Nonetheless, there are a large variety of restaurants open for the ‘supper series’ a late night dining experience put on by white night. These are all exceptional restaurants, which have created a range of winter meals that are sure to warm you up while you are out exploring the different events! Carlton Gardens will also host a range of tasty food trucks, and experimental, delicious toasties will also be sold throughout the city over the three nights.

The Treasury Gardens will be the host to a range of different works, including video installations, lighting, projections and interactive artworks. Birrarung Marr, an inner-city park between the CBD and Yarra River, will have shows featuring 42 acrobats, aerialists, singers and actors. The gorgeous Carlton Gardens will have impressive puppeteering acts, including a 10 metre long lion, an enormous puppet with giant wings as well as ariel acts overhead.

There are also a range of other iconic Melbourne buildings within the city hosting different shows and artworks on White Night, such as the NGV, State Library, Arts Centre and the Melbourne Museum.

To all of these glorious locations, there are a range of accessible public transport options. As always, areas within the Melbourne Central Business District (CBD) are apart of the free tram zone, this includes tram stops within walking distance of the State Library, Arts Centre, NGV, Carlton Gardens, Birrarung Marr and the Treasury Gardens. There will be additional public transport services running over the three nights, to ensure that everyone has access to the public transport networks.

Also, if you are planning to drive, there are a range of secure paid car parks surrounding most main event sights, on street parking may also be available, however it may be more tricky to find a park.
